UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the government organisation that provides integrated support and services to UK companies looking to achieve their overseas business potential. UK companies are amongst the most entrepreneurial and globally successful in the world, but there is still massive untapped potential. Engaging in international business can help to make a company stronger, with higher employment levels and increased productivity.
“We want to work with legal practices in Yorkshire and The Humber to ensure that they win a share of that overseas business, and that they offer an enhanced service to their clients through working alongside UKTI and our advisory teams.”
Mark Robson, Regional International Trade Director of UKTI
UKTI’s extensive global network provides up to date information and support to help British companies achieve their exporting goals. Its teams are based in over 200 locations around the world, from Abu Dhabi to Zagreb, and across a regional network that provides local knowledge around the UK and a range of services to help clients achieve export success.
Working with key partners such as Yorkshire Forward, UK Trade & Investment assists and advises companies across the region in their successful trade ventures overseas. Some are completely new to exporting whilst others are already some way down the route of developing their international trade strategy and seeking out new markets.
Exports have increased in Yorkshire and The Humber over the last two years from around £8billion to over £10billion and there has been a continuing upward trend over the last five years in the number of exporters in the region. UKTI is supporting Leeds Legal’s plans to generate inward investment opportunities from overseas companies and will play an instrumental role in attracting international clients to Leeds based law firms.
Regional International Trade Director Mark Robson says: “Companies tell us that one of their main concerns when trading internationally is the danger of falling foul of unforeseen regulatory or legal difficulties. Many of them could have avoided costly and time-consuming problems if they had sought legal advice at an earlier stage.
“Legal services underpin all aspects of trade and commerce. They contribute £12billion annually to the UK economy, and generate £1.8billion of exports. We want to work with legal practices in Yorkshire and The Humber to ensure that they win a share of that overseas business, and that they offer an enhanced service to their clients through working alongside UKTI and our advisory teams.”
