Marketing Leeds was officially launched in September 2005, created from a powerful partnership between the public and private sectors. It is the city’s first destination marketing company and aims to provide clear vision, purpose and leadership to ensure that Leeds fulfils its potential as a world-class city for business, leisure and education.

Marketing Leeds works in partnership with existing organisations wherever possible, collaborating to achieve the greatest impact on the widest audience. The company is limited by guarantee with a board of ten directors drawn from a cross-section of the business community and the council.
This is the first time that Leeds has united as a city and worked together to ensure that external perceptions reflect the high quality of the city’s offer. Marketing Leeds aims to build upon the highly successful ‘core elements’ of the city in order to promote Leeds as the place to do business, to visit and to study.
The city brand, ‘Leeds, Live it, Love it’, is a simple memorable line based on the pride of its residents. The people of Leeds love Leeds, and they rate their quality of life highly – 91 per cent of residents were ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’, and 94 per cent stated that they had pride in their city. The essence of the brand invites other audiences to try Leeds on the strength of this resident pride, in the belief that ‘if you try it, you’ll buy it’.
The Leeds Champions Initiative is at the core of the company’s strategy. It is a corporate sponsorship and citizenship programme, which consists of a diverse mix of around 40 public and private organisations – with more companies entering the scheme all the time.
Marketing Leeds is able to draw on their wide range of expertise to drive the city forward and attain a much higher profile both nationally and internationally.
