Lawyers set to open legal gateway between Leeds and Germany
Yorkshire’s ties with Germany will become stronger, when a German legal delegation visit Leeds to meet with potential Yorkshire-based business partners, next week.

The party, comprising lawyers, financial/tax advisors and manufacturing companies from the Düsseldorf region, will be guests of Leeds Legal, a body set up to promote Leeds’ collective wealth of legal talent.

Leeds Legal, which is backed by the Leeds Law Society and the regional office of the Law Society of England & Wales, is hosting an inward trade mission to drive international business to the city’s legal profession and create closer business links between the two communities, between 25th-27th February. It comes after a successful previous trade mission to Düsseldorf last year by the Leeds Legal team, to explore potential ways in which to exploit the UK trading market.

This time, a packed agenda of activities will see delegates meet with leading law firms, accountancy practices and manufacturing companies with the support of UK Trade and Investment, Leeds Chamber of Commerce, Yorkshire Forward, as well as the city’s legal sector. Delegates will also attend a gala dinner at the Hilton Leeds City hotel, where they will be addressed by keynote speaker, Fabian Hamilton MP (Leeds North East), about the benefits of bilateral working. They will also be treated to lunch and a tour of Headingley Carnegie stadium along with a presentation by Gary Hetherington, chief executive, on the challenges of running major sports teams and brands as a business.

Deborah Green, regional manager of the Law Society of England & Wales and one of the founding members of Leeds Legal said: “Forging the right business links is crucial. Leeds and the wider Yorkshire region has developed a strong reciprocal relationship with Germany, already conducting £2.25bn worth of trade.

“The visit will enhance this, allowing representatives to engage with the Yorkshire legal and business scene and give them access to the region’s outstanding business networks and contacts. This will enable them to assess the potential for their product or service to succeed in the UK. Furthermore, the uptake of this mission underlines the need for further collaborative working and we are pleased Leeds Legal is encouraging international businesses to take advantage of the full support structure of the Yorkshire region.“

The visit is also assisted by Leeds Legal sponsors Hilton Leeds City hotel and European airline Jet2.com, providing flights and accommodation for the entire delegation.
