Leeds Legal hosts an evening with the Lord Mayor of the City of London

As part of his two-day visit to Yorkshire, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Ian Luder met with representatives of Leeds Legal for a dinner at the Hilton Leeds City hotel last night.

Alderman Luder, a tax partner with London-based accountants, Grant Thornton, joined Alan M. Baker, chairman of Leeds Legal and a number of senior figures from the city’s law firms and from UKTI.

During the dinner, the Lord Mayor discussed opportunities for regional representative bodies, such as Leeds Legal, to be involved in overseas visits and explore the possibilities of working together on future projects.

The Lord Major’s visit, organised by Leeds Financial Services Initiative (LFSI), aims to further strengthen important business links between Leeds and the City of London. This is the 10th annual visit by the Lord Major to meet members of LFSI and other business, such as Leeds Legal, and civic leaders.

Alan M. Baker, chairman of Leeds Legal, said: “We were delighted to host a dinner for the Lord Major. It was a great opportunity to communicate the abundance of legal expertise we have in Leeds and to demonstrate the high-levels of service, no-nonsense advice and value for money the city’s law firm offer.

“We are committed to forging business links, both nationally and internationally, and we are keen to explore a range of collaborative working opportunities and develop the Leeds London relationship further.”

Commenting on the visit, LFSI chief executive, Howard Kew, added: “We welcome the Lord Mayor to Leeds and value these visits as an important part of our work in raising the profile of the Leeds city region. As the leading financial services centre outside of London, the Leeds city region has an important role in the UK financial industry and this is recognised in the work of Lord Mayor and the City in promoting the whole of the UK industry.”
